CONTENT OR FOCUS OF THE PRAYER THAT WILL BE MADE BY THIS COMMITTEE

1. All prayers shall be founded on the promises of God’s word, as it is written:

And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. (1 John 5:14-15)

…and shall be founded on the commandments of God’s word, as it is written:

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (Matt.22:37-40)

SUGGESTED GUIDELINES FOR A PRODUCTIVE & HEALTHY PRAYER MEETING

1. Prepare a simple list of prayer points for the session (leader).

2. Make the list available to participants, but don’t be limited by it; be free to add items.

3. Respect the beginning time and the ending time for the meeting.

4. Let each person who prays address one situation in turn, not a group of items. This avoids rambling, endless prayers, which may frustrate other attendees.

5. Let prayers be specific rather than general. If prayers are general, no one will know whether they were answered.

6. As may be comfortable, include the use of specific Scripture verses in prayer, according to John 15:7. Effective prayers are generally an expression of what God has already said he will do, in his word.

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you,
ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

7. In some fashion, record the answers to prayer for reporting to the Executive Committee, and also for encouraging more prayer.
